Play Therapist?

Anonymous
Can anyone recommend a good play therapist in the area, or non-traditional play group? Or is this what someone like Jake Greenspan does? We need to 'catch up' on play/interactive w/peer skills that have been limited due to my daughter's low muscle tone. She has spent so much time in PT and OT, that she's missed out on establishing the early play skills. We have tried social skills groups, but found most groups have boys who are ADHD (some need to learn to sit and play), or are ASD. It's hard to explain, but my daughter just shut down when these very talkative, active boys were present. Any ideas would be appreciated.

what about facilitated playdates? with advice from your preschool teachers about a good match for your daughter, you could try to facilitate it, or perhaps the preschool teachers could take the time in school to facilitate it? (this is something that jake greenspan suggested for our daughter. we are going to do one at home per week, and do one at school, with either the teacher or our speech therapist facilitating.)

good luck.

Nearly 6, and we live in Mont. Co. (Bethesda/Rockville/Potomac area would work best for us) To PP, we tried facilitated play with speech therapist, and current teacher is not even able to do this in the classroom. I think someone from more of a child psychology backgroun would be more useful in our situation. (And I do not care at all for Alvord, Baker, Assoc.'s method)
