I've been through 4 fresh cycles and now it looks like we might finally get to a transfer. We are with GW. Does anyone know whether they routinely prescribe Valium before the transfer? When I had an IUI done I had severe cramping afterward and I'm just wondering if a muscle relaxant might help avoid that. Also, anything else I should know that's quirky about the transfers?
No, they don't.
Thanks, PP. Have any others who are not with GW been prescribed Valium or another muscle relaxant for the transfer? It just seems like cramping would be good to avoid, but I haven't been through this part of the process before.
I definitely suggest pre and post transfer acupuncture. It is so calm and relaxing (apart from any potential benefits of the acupuncture itself). Good luck!
I haven't gotten to transfer yet, but at GW orientation I remember the nurse (or maybe it was my own nurse, later on) saying that some people take Valium (or some such med) for transfer. I don't know if they prescribe it, but it would be worth asking.
I had a horrible transfer and was having severe anxieties. My RE who did not do my transfer said they could have arrange for me to be out (I guess an anesthesia)
I had a FET on early april this year at GW and Dr F. gave me valium ... |
I would think you could ask. I'm at ORM, but seems like they routinely give Valium prior to transfer to help you and your body relax.
OP here. Thanks everyone. I asked today when the doctor called with my embryo update and it sounds like Valium is an option. Also looking into acupuncture. I used to see Kelly Welch but then I lost insurance coverage for acupuncture, so I've been taking a break...but the results of the German protocol definitely seem compelling.
At GW, I remember that they gave some sort of "relaxing drug" before transfer. At CFA they did not.
Transfer at GW 2 years ago, they gave it to me with no option. Transfer at GW last month, they gave me the option, but I declined.
Yes - at GWU they will give you a valium to take right before the transfer. It is supposed to calm everything down. I did not leave with any sort of prescription for valium after, however, if that is what you are asking.
Our clinic had me take 3 valium on the ride over before the transfer. My husband drove of course. All I know is I was so giggly and goofy but it definitely helped me relax for the process. That morning before I left work I was so anxious that I really think I was on the verge of a panic attack. So I think it was great that they gave me the valium. I have never experienced a buzz quite like that in my life!
