I was never able to master that when I was obese and ate in public. |
This is a very good point! Also, there are lots of people who can eat sweets in moderation and be happy with one cookie. How I wish I were one of them! |
For real. There's a website/Facebook group called Half Size Me that has a private group, but it's $20/month and I didn't get enough value out of it to stay subscribed. There's also a blog called Refuse to Regain I really like, but the posts are once a week at most. Other than that, I haven't found a lot of resources/community for those trying to maintain weight loss. |
I have binge eating disorder and highly recommend over eaters anonymous. Everyone there understands my emotions and everything you have just described. Their tools are wonderful and really help in bombatting this disease. |
I admit this last episode was not as good as the first ones, but the cannot add a total tear jerker every episode. I actually think Kate is an interesting character. Between her weight and the constant fighting between her brothers, ishe seems to start to shrink away from life. And the binge eating was to lead up to the fact that she will have to chose between Toby and dieting.
I find the actor brother to be so one dimensional that he is difficult to like. |
It is sad though. There are two shows with fat characters this season, this one and American housewife and in each one being fat is the sum total of the characters identity. Apparently fat people do not have any other hobbies or interests. And it's interesting that Kate has no girlfriends. In both these shows other people relate to the fats in this one dimensional way, if they are friends then the fat is the fat friend or they are ostracized. It's like it's impossible to have a work friend or pat friend who is funny and talented and also happens to be fat. Nope if you are fat you are just fat. That is all that matters. |
OMG. Are you also the poster who was obsessing about every minute detail of the timeline, the Challenger explosion, etc.?? Good grief. ![]() |
The character on American Housewife is not fat!!! |
As someone struggling to lose weight I like Kate's storyline. I find her more interesting than Kevin right now. |
I'm not and actually thought that was kind of ridiculous (I LOVE this show and think it is the best show I've watched since Friday Night Lights). The Tupperware thing just jumped out at me SO clearly. I'm usually one who suspends disbelief, I like shows I don't need to think too hard about, tend to just accept whatever premise they put out. I don't know why that one was so obvious to me... maybe because we use a lot of tupperware at home? LOL |
I think she does have another story line -- how her life was basically consumed as an adult in working for her brother and making her brother successful. Admittedly, that is interwoven with the weight thing, but I think that's pretty realistic - she hasn't been comfortable standing on her own and being the focal point. Her relationship with her boyfriend is also a separate story line (again, weight is tied up in that... because when you're that size, it impacts everything you do). Her relationship with her mom is still a bit of a mystery, but there are hints that will become a story line too. |
Kate also had the whole Steelers storyline, which revealed that their dad is dead -- that was separate from the weight. There's more we'll find out about her relationship with her dad, but there's clearly something there with their interaction at the pool, etc. Her being a "daddy's girl" to a dad who is now dead is a theme. |
Thanks. I went to one meeting, and while I did find it somewhat therapeutic, it also was super depressing - it was at a kind of run-down AA center (TONS of meetings going on and the crowd was just... depressing, hate to say that, but true), it was like 6 people, all at least 25 years older than me (and this was on a Saturday morning). |
Yet, they have not really talked since Kevin left - so much for co-dependency story. |
S/o the tupperware comment: were stainless but steel appliances popular in the early 90s? I'm a 70s kid and nobody I knew had stainless steel appliances until the early 2000s. I thought Rebecca would stick with plain white or, if trying to be real fancy, have the appliances paneled to match the cabinets |
