All true. But at Ivies it has mostly been URM |
Yea. Same at GDS. Something like 9/10 ivies are URM. It's just the nature of admissions in 2022. The sooner you get over this, the happier you'll be. |
You'll feel different when your kid is a senior. It's great that colleges are seeking more diversity. But it's the underqualified non URM kids who buy their way into Ivies or are otherwise connected that is so frustrating. |
There are very few underqualified kids at Ivys. There are equally qualified that get ahead for some reason. |
Your racism is showing. |

it’s metaphorical it’s metaphorical
The fields are too wide, the horses too wild the monsters too red the people too dead and as her fingers fall the house is too small So I sit on the porch and drink chamomile tea as the pearly evening bursts into flame and as he hoists the moon upon his shoulders the breeze brushes past my cheek, phantom fingers placing rose petals on my tongue the sound never stops but still i weep the ghosts, the strawberry seeds in my skin don’t seem like a curse anymore. |
Um, not exactly true. 8 ivies up on the instagram and 3 are URM. So not everyone, but yes, overrepresented. |
Not at all true. I personally know two white kids at GDS going to Ivies (HYP- both got in ED) and unless you consider Asians "underrepresented", I'm pretty sure a couple going to Ivies from GDS too... |
| Jesus, why the hangup on the Ivies. THERE IS NOTHING MAGICAL ABOUT THE IVIES! Look, I'm thrilled the Ivies (and other "elite" schools are trying to diversify but people act as if unhooked high stats white kids are doomed to podunk U....Look at the schools these kids are going to!!! They are fanatastic. |
Ok, so 8/10. I know those white kids too. One is double legacy. The other I don't think so. The rest are overwhelmingly URM. But I'm not here to argue exact specifics. |
“I’m not here to argue exact specifics” Translated: “I’m going to make up sh*t and you can’t stop me” |
| This thread made me curious: so I looked at the various private school insta accounts that I could find. seems like some great schools to me. Lots of top 30 schools on all the lists. Doesn’t look that different to me than previous years. |
I always kind of wonder when private schools opt out of things that would actually put them in more comparison with public schools--APs, national competitions. I've heard their reasoning, but it does make you wonder. (FWIW I went to a top private in Chicago that did the same and wondered back then too). |
Seriously, that's what I thought. Dickinson is the second to least prestigious school for Sidwell so far. If your child is ranked 14th out of 15 and going to a school with a 29 ACT, the school is doing something right. |
Hilarious...apparently he's still considering Asian URM too because he's still going with 8/10....Also, GDS is about 50% URM so you'd expect about 50% of the ivies from their to be URM... |
