Hired driver for kid to and from school

Anonymous
I am a single mom with a young elementary-aged kid. My job requires travel about 5-6 times a year, usually about 3-5 days for each trip. I have no family nearby and they can come take care of their granddaughter only about twice a year. I have been unable to find a temporary nanny type arrangement that I can afford, but I have a close friend nearby where my DD could stay. I would just need someone to take DD to school and back each day.

Any advice on where to find such a trustworthy person?

Your best bet is to ask your school list-serve and see if another mum/dad can help (for free baby-sitting or money).

have you talked to your kid's classmate's parents?

I'm in the same boat, but my child isn't quite elementary school age, so still in a careat, which would make using a classmate's parent difficult. I'd love to hear suggestions on this, too. Care.com?

I'd go for Care.com or when I was little and my mom needed this type of service, she asked her friends and one had a recently retired parent who was happy to drive me back and forth for some extra pocket cash. And he actually drove me every day for a year since K was half day where I grew up.

I would check around and see if there is a reliable HS student. My neighbor's son meets a boy at the bus stop, take him home, makes him a snack, they play for 30 minutes, then they do homework together, then they hang out until she gets home. He can drive so he could take him to practice but he does not do sports anymore.

It's a lot of money for a teen, but an inexpensive option for parents.

OP here, have already tried the parent list serve and parents of her friends at school. She goes to a choice school so not so easy and my friend is several miles away. Won't work.

How much are you offering for nannying? There are a number of people I know (including myself) that could do this, but none of us would be able to commit more than 2 weeks prior.

I second Care.com - many flakes, but amazing people too! Interview them until you like two - then have them meet you and your DC to introduce them before they work for you!

Your friend can't take your daughter to school? Even with before and aftercare? Do you take her to school now or does she ride a bus?

OP here, she busses to school now, I pick her after school. Friend is not in same school zone and commutes to work in opposite direction, so no she cannot do the transportation. Asking her to keep my child is enough.

I was thinking about White House nannies. Trust is really important here.
