Capital City Public Charter school

Anonymous
hi!
One of my twins got a spot at the Capital City Public Charter school for pre-k. Does anyone have experience at this school? Wondering if I should try to get a spot somehow for the other one. We also got into a regular public school and were just going to go there... but I would love to hear your experiences at Capital City.

Thanks!

As was stated on another thread, the waitlist for Cap City exceeds the waitlists for Janney, Key, Lafayette, Mann, & Murch COMBINED. Yet, those are the "most desirable" DCPS schools. This is an easy one:

Take the spot for your first twin (whether or not the second gets in). Next year you can always use sibling preference to get twin #2 in. From there you are set.

Take it and don't look back. People around here pay college tuition dollar$ to get pampered educations for their "elite" children that are not as academically rigorous as the charter you've lucked into.

Congratulations and good luck!

Bad (translation = stupid) assumption on your part!

Remember the old joke: "assume = ass + you +me" (and I'm not playing along!)

We never needed to apply to the overpriced schools. We already had an in to the one that matters!

WOW, really got a rise outta you, huh? How long did it take you to figure out what you wanted to write here?

Thank you for the information. I will take your advice, but hopefully they will work with me to get a second space for the second twin. They have always been home with me together, so it might be really upsetting to split them into two different schools. Will see.

And can I say that I appreciated the first poster's response, but the follow up is exactly why I didn't already know the answer to this question. I have completely avoided other parents in this city because of the way you people act. Makes me not want to come here to ask a question again. Thanks!

PP - I completely understand. We are number 74 on the wait list for Pre-K....so congrats on your spot. It is a difficult decision. The school is highly regarded and as you can see much of the advice from this list you have to take with a grain of salt.

i'm not a twin mom, but some of my best friends are...

seems like splitting up twins can really go either way. some kids really take to it and like it and it causes so issues and can be a good thing for the family. i guess it would be hard to tell in advance....

if i were you, i would take the cap city spot and try to get my other twin in on a sib preference next year. what a great school!

also, what is the public school that you are referring to?

Hi Tina.

I feel you re: other folks in this city not really being people you want to talk to about this stuff (says the mom with a kid in PG public schools out of necessity/default), but I will tell you that a good friend of mine teaches at Cap City, and if she's in any way representative, it's a great place.

I am a twins' mom. A lot of schools won't necessarily work with you on this. They will exercise a sibs' preference for singletons, but not for multiples, during the same application period. I think this may change over time, but it is still pretty much the practice. Good luck!
