Okay i need some input and i need it quickly. So i have two emails that are offering me a spot at Glenarden woods ES or CMIT laurel. I am shocked because i was on the waitlist and did not think we would get anything. Glenarden woods ES is closer but CMIT i am looking at the fact that i would be able to have my child get into the middle school program. If anyone could give me an opinion on which school has a better program. Shall i go to a closer school or is it worth putting in the drive to Laurel. Please help i have to respond by Friday. Ugh!
First question to ask yourself is do you want your child in a school with all TAG kids or a school with a more diverse peer group intellectually
i am unsure about either school but CMIT does not have good reviews, but glenarden woods have good reviews. hopefully parents with experience who have chose TAG over charter or vice versa can give advice.
Glenarden Woods TAG matriculates to Greenbelt Middle TAG, FWIW. Also, there's transportation.
^^I'm a GW/GMS parent.
Also, there are comprehensive students in Greenbelt Middle, and the populations mix without detriment in some classes.
People I know are very happy with Greenbelt Middle Tag program as well as GlenArden Woods. I would be happy to send my child to GWES.

PP are you correct about Glenarden Woods ES students going to Greenbelt Middle TAG or is it only for those kids who live in the boundary. When i looked up on school finder the Middle School was Walker Mill for Glenarden Woods. It would be nice if this is the case( greenbelt middle). It is a hard call because if you accept you will get a good middle school, however, the drive trying to do Participate may not be fun if you live near the bowie area. Also i can imagine the traffic.

It seems as though pp Glenarden woods ES may be a closer commute for you and not such a bad school. Unsure about the matriculation into their Middle School but Greenbelt Middle would be a great school. I have not heard great things about Walker Middle. Therefore, maybe go to Glenarden Woods ES until 5th and like the rest of pg county parents. In 5th get back in the lottery and wish for the best or go private.
Yep, I'm sure. We live in Mt. Rainier. DS matriculated from GW TAG to GMS TAG. |
PP again. I'm assuming that the OP's child is headed to the TAG program due to language about a spot being offered at GW. If this isn't the case, then I think yes, the boundary middle school listed is where kids matriculate.
okay i am confused my daughter is going to glenarden woods es for TALENTED and GIFTED program. unsure about the language piece. do all kids go to greenbelt middle or not? pp i say go to GW.
^^yes. They go to greenbelt middle from there.
This is a good point and something me and my wife are dealing with when it comes to our oldest(he's going to the 3rd grade). He took the first part of the TAG test a month ago and he takes the second part in the fall. If he does good which I think he will, we are going to have to make the hard decision in keeping him at his current school which is a really good school or sending him over to glenarden woods. |

My son just completed fifth grade at Glenarden Woods and will begin Greenbelt Middle's TAG program in August. Not all Glenarden kids go to Greenbelt. For example, his buddies from the Mitchelville area are headed to Kenmoor Middle. Call the PGCPS Pupil Accounting and School Boundary office to find out which TAG middle school program your child would attend. Be aware the boundaries for both TAG and other schools are subject to change.
