Nah mannnnn nobody can compare these 2.

All these posters on here brag about their 8-12 year olds haha they have no idea about the real stuff. Just what their the force their snotty kids to do. Besides I don't think a van or Tahoe makes it to a soccer field after age 12

I'll take a shot at answering. I think the quality and competition is pretty similar although CCL may be slightly stronger. Here's why.... in the Virginia State Cup competition 3 of the 4 semifinalists (BRYC, Arlington, Loudon) and were CCL teams while the fourth (SYC) was an EDP team. Another EDP team (Herndon) made the quarterfinals but so did two other CCL teams (SYA and SOCA). So 5 of 8 quarterfinalists were CCL teams while there were 2 EDP quarterfinalists. So I would say that overall CCL teams are stronger in VA. Keep in mind however that there are more CCL teams in VA than EDP teams.

The situation is reversed in Maryland. In the Maryland State Cup two of the semifinalists were EDP teams (Balt Bays and Celtic) while CCL only managed to get two teams as far as the quarterfinals (MDU and Frederick). There are several more EDP teams than CCL teams in Maryland however so this is not entirely surprising.

If you look at both Maryland and VA state cup results together, CCL has more teams in the state cup quarterfinals, more teams in the semifinals and more teams in the finals than EDP.

I'm am OP. Thanks for the reply!

I am asking because my son has been offered a spot on two clubs from both the CCL and EDP and yes for the U16 group from this past year so both links are relevant. He will be U17 this coming season.

We are just moving to the area and it's been pretty clear cut with all the others areas we have lived. Here obviously there is so much chaos.

I should ask this:

One of the clubs has 4 members of my sons future high school teammates (PWC) while the other club has all FFX HS kids on it. So should I not focus so much on what is better and choose the club that has HS teammates on it?

So one club team will have 4 HS teammates and the other club team will have none? Well, I think that all else being equal that is a relevant consideration for someone new to the area. Having a network of teammates at your son's new HS will ease the transition for him socially and for you socially and logistically.

This is my post above and I have to make one correction. CCL and EDP teams both had a total of three U16 boys teams in the combined MD and VA state cup semifinals. So CCL had more quarterfinalists and finalists than EDP but the two leagues had the same number of semifinalists.

So as much praise as everyone gives CCL could that be attested to the younger ages?

OP. Pick the club that fits your son better. There isn't a big enough difference to matter. Look at the record for that team last year and make sure the team isn't trapped in a division it can't handle. Weigh heavily having classmates on the team. Travel soccer can be very isolating otherwise.

Hey OP, one more point to consider beyond my state cup analysis..... if I were looking at a CCL club I would want to know whether the TEAM plays in the Region 1 Champions League and or the USYS National League (or at least whether it is applying to play in those leagues). Both of those leagues offer the highest possible play.

CCL at every age has great teams (and some weak teams too) but for the best CCL teams the focus is not on the CCL competition, but rather on Region 1 and National League competition. My sons CCL team does not give a damn how it does in the CCL standings (there is no relegation in CCL), and instead focuses all of its training towards Region 1 and National League play (and of course the showcase tournaments).

Again thanks for the advice. One of the teams (the edp team) won their region championship and is going to youth nationals. Which is the team with a lesser commute and future high school teammates although during the workout the kids on this team communicated far less and seemed less welcoming to my son the new kid while the other kids seemed more open to the idea.

We have told both clubs we are going to attend more practices for each and figure it out from there although we are leaning closer one way over the other at the moment.
