spd and insurance

Anonymous
I think my DD has SPD. Our insurance covers OT for the diagnosis of developmental delays.
Is SPD included in the developmental delays? Is the OT's evaluation accepted as a proof of insurance reimbursement?
I called our insurance company, but I was not able to get the right answer.
I would like to hear from people who have SPD and have experiences with the insurance companies.
Thank you.

You will have to talk to the OT about what to do. Since SPD is classified as a true disorder yet, many insurance companies won't pay for it since there is no "code" for it. If it does cause your child to have Dev. Delays, they might pay for that. But talk to your OT about your child specifically. My insurance doesn't pay for OT unless my child has a birth defect, needs rehab due to an accident, etc. I also have an ind. policy and the OT said that sometimes group coverage will pay for some of it.
