Please help me with the basics of TTC

Got pregnant really quickly and by accident the first time around. Thinking of trying for our second. But I don't know the first thing about ovulation and the kits and fertility windows and taking temperatures!! Can anyone help me?

The average woman ovulates 14 days before her period. So if you get your period every 32 days, you ovulate on day 18. If you're regular, start having sex every other day starting 4-5 days before your ovulation day until about 2 days after.

To get more exact about ovulation, get the clear blue smiley face ovulation sticks on Amazon. Good luck!

Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility -- get it from the library. It's really eye-opening. You don't have to do everything in there (personally I track cervical mucus but I don't temp or check my cervix) but it will explain the many options. And it's good to know what your body is doing.

Sorry but this is not good advice because how do you know if you're average? There's no way she can know unless she tracks ovulation.

If you get your period regularly, it is good advice. Subtract 14 days from your cycle length.

LP length varies. It's not good advice.

I get my period regularly. But I ovulate around day 23 or 24. Not good advice. If you really want to TTC quickly, you need to get a lot more precise. If you don't mind if it takes a long time, then sure, you can just aim for somewhere around the 14th day and you may get lucky.

Unless you are quite old I wouldn't bother with that stuff for a few months at least.

This is terrible advice.

I second the person who says read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. If you don't want to spend the money, then spend some time reading the e-book available for free at FertilityFriend.com -- I found that site to be an AMAZING resource when I was TTC my first and am going to read it again now that I'm starting again hoping to try for a second 3 years later.

Sorry but you are wrong. I get my period regularly. Every 34 days. My luteal phase is only 11 days, though, so if I used your advice, I would miss my ovulation completely.

Is there a reason you want to do all that right out of the gate?

True about LP lengths...mine can vary between 11-13 days. OP, if you want to make sure you are in your window, just BD every other day after your period until the end of your cycle (or maybe till CD 24ish).

Luteal phase is less variable and is generally 13-14 days.

True for everyone? No. A place to start without documented issues and easier than temping etc? Yes.
