I'm new here where do people vacation?

For long weekends (so like a drive of 3-4 hours or lesss. I feel like I've done the popular ones- philly, Baltimore, rehoboth, cape may, etc. We are open to new adventures, just need new ideas. We have a four and five year old. We love food too.

Several options.

With kids that age: Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster County, PA. Amish country is fun, too.

Also: Williamsburg/Virginia Beach

Also: Shananendoah National Park

Also: Harper's Ferry and environs.

Pittsburgh is a 4-hour drive.

We vacation much farther away (this year have been to Italy, Wyoming, Cape Cod among others). Seems like a lot of people we know tend to take longer trips for spring break, winter break, summer vacation. But other ideas for short jaunts include:

Snowshoe WV
Greenbrier or Homestead
Harpers Ferry
Lancaster PA
Hershey PA
Deep Creek Lake
Lewes DE
Richmond
Outer Banks (farther than 4 hours)
Cunningham Falls State Park
Wintergreen/Massanutten
Staunton VA
Charlottesville
Cambridge/Easton MD
Annapolis

Saratoga Springs
Banff
Lausanne
Baden-Baden
Novi Sad
Khabarovsk

great, fun locations that are different but did you even read the requirement of a 3-4 hour drive?

Ocean City was 3 hours with traffic. Plenty to do with kids - my 3 year old loved the family bike ride along the pier.

Richmond, VA - science museum, zoo (get to feed giraffes and they have a ropes course for kids), Maymount and other cool attractions for kids.

Charlottesville - go to Monticello and do the family tour, bowling, kids museum.

Strasburg (Lancaster area) has a great train museum, too.

There have been a lot of good suggestions here.

NOTHING like NE beaches! Nothing compares here, frankly. OBX is a dump. Since you asked.

Sounds random, but especially when the weather gets cooler, we love Harrisonburg, VA with small kids. Indoor water park at Massanutten, fabulous kids museum, great farmer's market and farms to visit. Surprisingly, some decent restaurants downtown.
