Are there other Republican parents at your charter?

Anonymous
For a variety of reasons, we will be doing the charter lottery next year in lieu of our IB struggling elementary school. We have started talking to neighborhood parents and other cater school parents and feel like we are the soul Republicans looking for a charter solution rather than a move to Virginia. Does your charter have any Republican families that can be so openly? (I'm not going to stick bumper stickers on my kid just hoping to find a few like minded parents to enjoy school functions with.)

Why does it matter? I'm sure most Charter families are Republican.

Ha, you said "soul Republicans."

My husband is a moderate Republican, and we're a charter family. We don't talk politics much with people we don't know well, so I don't know how many other Republicans are at our school. People in DC skew pretty hard to the left, so you must be used to that by now. If you were anti-marriage equality or didn't believe in global warming, you would be ostracized.

I don't find political debates are a great ice breaker when meeting other parents

The entire charter movement is run by Republicans. Surely you won't be the SOLE Republicans in a given school.

Republican charter family at HRCLIS. I'm pretty sure we're the only ones. Sorry. This area is not open-minded to non-liberal viewpoints IMO. There may be others, but we're all in the closet. I smile politely when when bold progressives unabashedly provide a left-leaning view and I don't respond. You'll be doing the same. We'll be moving to VA when the youngest finishes K.

Yu Ying has a lot of Rs. You know, China, business, capitalist world domination...

As a Unitarian lesbian in a multi-racial family, I would welcome you to our wonderful school. Part of being liberal, IMO, includes being open to all people and respecting their viewpoints, even if they differ. Hope you find a welcoming place.

Charter movement may been led by conservatives nationally but most charter schools reflect the city's demographics -- which is overwhelmingly Democratic/progressive/liberal.

I only know of one Republican at Mundo Verde and she is not very "out" about it!

You're incapable of making small talk with people who aren't Republicans?

It is fascinating to me that there would be Republicans (1) living in the District in (2) a neighborhood with enough _[xyz whatever__] residents right around you to make the assigned school "struggling." So not in Spring Valley or Kent.

Was it accidental?

And to be on point, I cannot think of a single Republican parent with a child at a PCS. But surely there are a handful, as you see on this thread so far.

Sure. Are you capable of talking to me about who I'm flying to Iowa to support in the caucuses without picking a political fight?

There are Republican families at Latin and Basis.

There are only a handful of us in DC. We know each other and sadly for you....we are everywhere. PCS, WOTP and EOTP.
