| DD is 17 and frequently gets pimples on her forehead, especially in between eyebrows. Any good product recommendations PLEASE!!!!!!! Thanks! |

We tried everything and was just about to go to the dermtologist. A friend reminded me of Mario Badescu products. They are sold by mail and at Nordstrom's. Use the acne wash with cucumber lotion and the drying cream.
Helped enormously and now DS is looking great. |
| Please, please take her to a dermatologist now if standard drugstore benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid acne products are not working. Whether she lets on or not, I'm sure this is affecting her self esteem, and I don't think it is fair to her to make her try every possible OTC remedy before seeking professional help. Dermatologists can prescribe various medications, topical and/or oral, that are proven to work. And my insurance plan, at least, has covered everything that has been prescribed for my teen, even the expensive Retin-A creams that we old gals pay for out of pocket. |
+1. Acne is mostly hormonal, so topical treatments can only do so much. ProActiv is great stuff, as are correctly formulated BHA and benzoyl peroxide treatments as PP said. But if those aren't working, time for an Rx. |
| Definite yes to dermatologist now if a couple of OTC products haven't worked. Acne can be devastating to a teen's emotional well being and a dermatologist is well worth the cost for this reason alone. |
Agree. Also work with your teen to find a good sunscreen. Retinioids and products like ProActiv make skin more sensitive to the sun. |
| Take her to a dermatologist. Please. As someone who suffered from moderate acne as a teen and is still suffering the consequences at 35, please take her to a doctor. |
| Like a pp said, try an acne wash along with a benzoyl peroxide cream before going to the doctor. I don't know why people don't try those first. I've heard that Proactiv is amazing but I think there are some cheaper drugstore versions that do the same thing. I'm a big fan of the Neutrogena On The Spot acne cream. It has a low percentage of benzoyl peroxide just like Proactiv and it's great for clearing up breakouts without over drying the skin. |
| Definitely go to a dermatologist. Get her on doxycycline too (through the dermatologist). Years ago, we had great success with a Dr. Costa (Jack?) in Northern VA with our oldest son. |
Do not put your teen on oral antibiotics if it is not needed. They can wreck your GI system. |
I was on every antibiotic for my acne. I finally tried Accutane, and my acne ended after the second trial. I'm healthy - no problems. |

| I don't see what the issue is, acne is normal for teens. If she's 18-20 and still having issues, that's when I would consult a dermatologist. Until then, acne is part of life, and I wouldn't want to have her hormones screwed up. |
My oldest teen was also placed on doxycycline and other antibiotics for cystic acne. It cleared up immediately and we thought that was that, but it turns out the acne will come back with a vengeance once antibiotics are stopped. So he wound up being on them for far too long, until we finally decided to do Accutane. His acne was finally gone for good after that. We decided to put my next oldest teen on Accutane immediately after his cystic acne got out of control, and didn't even bother with the antibiotics. They are only a good short-term solution. Accutane is the only thing works permanently for cystic acne. (It's not actually called "Accutane" anymore, but it's the same thing.) |
