Help me make a Costco list

DSS is 15 and is living with us this summer. He eats A LOT. For those of you with teen boys I'm sue this is no surprise. Our little kids are 5 and 8 so it's just not something we're used to. I want to buy some easy to prepare foods that he can make for himself during the day.

What do your teen boys like to eat? I currently have a stock of hamburgers and grilled chicken in the fridge along with lots of fruit and vegetables. What I'm finding is that he gravitated to fully cooked ready to eat food. Can you help me stock the fridge and the freezer for him?

Does he like chicken salad? They prepare it with the rotisserie chicken. Hummus or other dips, they have several bean salads which are good, guacamole

This does seem to be its own food group for him. I think the other one is chicken fingers. Now remember I'm on the general parenting board mostly and moving into the older kids board. If I post on GP that I feed my 5 yr old pizza everyday, I would be admonished for not providing healthy choices. Do the rules change for teenagers?

My son is 23 now, but he has loved cooking since middle school. He was into making meals that come together in one pot as a teenager. Chili. Meatsauce & pasta. He liked doing stir fry veggies with spices and pasta. He liked to make popovers. Mac & cheese (he'd sometimes have friends over and make like four boxes at once). Ravioli. He liked making smoothies with protein powder, so we have tons of organic frozen fruit.

Just a thought: ask him what he'd like.

There's a simat and fascinating thread in the food forum called something like "how can I keep everyone fed?" Lots of great ideas.

Lol. She is an amazing cook. I'm looking for things for him to be able to make himself. I'm happy to cook dinner. But he's on his own for bkfst and lunch.

I have a teen dd so I'm assuming they're similar. Mine is a picky eater though. She loves boiled eggs, pizza, pasta, broccoli, watermelon, rotisserie chicken, and strawberries. Those are the types of things I get at costco for her.

Second the frozen pizza.

Re: the mom criticism, ignore it if they don't have a teenage boy. If they do have a teenage boy perhaps they will have better suggestions than frozen pizza, but at least they'll get it.

Definitely rotisserie chicken, frozen pizza, deli meat & cheese, hummus & pita chips. Can he make scrambled eggs? If so, eggs. If not maybe frozen breakfast burritos or sandwiches. Mine like to make panini like deli sandwiches. I have a cast iron press you just use in the frying pan. Also easy Mac or the Annie's version

Ditto pp protein powder and smoothies. If you have a magic bullet or similar model it's so easy.

My tween boy loves and eats tons of frozen chicken and cilantro dumplings (wontons?) from Costco.

Op here-- thanks for the suggestions. We'll go to Costco next week. Meanwhile I was thinking of teaching him how to cook. If he's open to it and can learn I think it would be a good life skill to have.
