How do play minecraft?

My 6 year ds wants to learn how to play it because his classmates have been playing it. I have no idea how to do it. Any suggestions?

Invite his friends over and have him watch for a while.

This exactly. Minecraft Dad has a great series, survive and thrive, that explains everything in a kid friendly way

You load it onto your computer and sit your kid down in front of it.

He will figure it out based on what he has heard from other kids much faster than you will be able to by reading online.

+1000. He'll learn much faster than OP ever will. Buy, load,... and the video suggestions are great.

The only help he may need is how to load mods... and there are many videos for that too.

Lol, both Minecraft and Pokemon are totally over my head. Thank God for a 12 year old cousin who helps my kids make sense of it!

I highly recommend playing with your kid. Over wifi. Multiplayer.

I can keep up with Pokemon, because I was the one who taught my brother to play ages ago, and kept apprised. Same basic concepts, just expanded now.

I'm clueless when it comes to Minecraft, and the 1st person pov makes me dizzy, so I don't watch, or if they want me in there, it's not in 1st person.

Invite a classmate over for an afternoon to play together. I also second the youtube videos. My oldest isn't into it as much anymore but his younger brother loves it and they still play together.

I'll be honest, one afternoon they got me to play with them and it was pretty fun, even though I am not a video game person at all.

Is there a difference between how you play on an IPad vs regular computer? My 6 year old plays creative mode only but it seems like he's missing some things that I hear about Minecraft.

Creative is "free play" - you have access to all the tools and special things and can go at your own pace without worrying about dealing with mobs (various scary things). You also won't die, you can fly, etc. Its meant to unleash the creativity and allow players to build their dream landscape and play out their favorite ideas.

Survivor is the story based mode where you do have obstacles, time issues, and limitations impeding your quest to survive and reach the final obstacles such as the Ender Dragon.

Read a wiki or intro video on YouTube.

Better yet - ask your kid's friend to come over and explain it!
