I have a bathroom that is shared by 3 people and it gets very humid. Recently I have noticed psocids or those tiny gray bugs that come out when there is humidity. For the bugs I read that baby powder might kill them. Since I have pets and a child at home I don't want to use anything toxic. I have a bathroom fan that says 80cfm but it still gets very humid in there. How can I cut the humidity and get rid of the bugs forever without spending too much? |
Always turn the fan on while taking shower and get a dehumidifier. |
Any suggestions for getting rid of the bugs if the baby powder doesn't work? They populate very quickly. Is the fan enough? Sometimes I wonder why these fans don't work (my previous one was 50cfm) at keeping the humidity out. I have a small bathroom yet this Nutone fan 80cfm has great reviews on homedepot but it does nothing for my small bathroom. |
Have you checked to make sure that the fan is actually venting to the outside and not into your attic? If it is venting to the outside you will see the vent termination on the roof. If the fan is venting into the attic like it was in my house when I bought it, the moist bathroom air is venting into a hot attic and doing very little to eliminate the moisture in the bathroom. You can also go into your attic to see if there is a duct to the outside. But it sounds like you have a venting problem not a fan size problem. |
Are you sure you bug issue is related to humidity issue? |
Turn the fan on before the shower is turned on. As soon as you're wrapped in a towel after shower crack open bathroom door if you can't open all the way. When exiting bathroom open door all the way and leave fan on for 15 minutes to half hour. |
If you have a basement drain opening, they are coming from there. Run water through the drain daily and either pour vinegar or in it. Or, the same with your regular drains. Its not the humidity, they are appealing to the gunk in your drains. |
If there is a window in the bathroom, open it as much as you can before showering. |
is bathroom in the basement? |
They appear mainly from the window. Yes they are humidity bugs. They are nowhere in the house except the most humid room which is the bathroom. Yes it could be a venting problem because it is ridiculous how the bathroom fan never does a good job of lowering the humidity. The bathroom is at a top level. |
And those bugs only appeared when it started getting warmer after winter |
