Moving into a new house and it's all very neutral and a blank slate. Would love to do some fun new colors in my living room (open to dining and kitchen).. Floors are darkish, white trim, light granite and cream cabinets, light grey walls. Was thinking navy and yellow with some fuschia and gold thrown in there? I would rather some bold colors instead of more neutrals.
What are some good color combos you are seeing out there now? |
Lavenders and blues.
Spring/early summer shades seem to be what is out right now. |
Apple green would be pretty and fun. |
Speaking as someone who has a navy living room and now sees it EVERYWHERE, don't do Navy, it's time has come and gone. I regret the navy ![]() |
What would you do instead? |
Check out the HGTV website - they usually have some good color combos you can look at to help you select a palate depending on the look you are going for.
Grey/stone colors are still quite trendy for the neutrals in your house. I saw one house that was mostly grey but had accents in bright yellow, and it looked really bright and sunny. |
I love my Oxford Stone walls by Farrow and Ball. They are "greige". I used Featherstone Grey by Benjamin Moore in another house I just did. That color is very adaptable. It looks grey at times, beige at times, and almost slightly green at times. It honestly matches everything. However, I find grey walls tend to look a little depressing over time. And they seem to show more dirt if you have a bunch of little guys running around.
I think neutrals are big right now and most people are doing one color throughout the main floor instead of painting each room differently (except maybe the kitchen and powder room). |
^^ Sorry, it was Benjamin Moore Feather Gray. Featherstone is more beige. |
+1. Navy is very mclean va circa 2007. Light and neutral whole house colors are trendy right now - whites, light greys, light blues, etc. Bold wall colors are not trendy. Bring in color through accessories. |
+1. I am dying to do this when we have a house: http://revolvingdecor.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/SL-Living-Room.jpg |
These trendy colors are stupid and pushed by decorators trying to find new work for everyone. I would stick with off-white cream colors or light blue/grey so that it's easier to paint over and more neutral. |
terrible |
Not the PP, and I think it looks awesome! |
Agree. I love bold and bright. |
Only because of the white everywhere to offset the green. It's not practical for a family. Hell even the prop kid was lily white. |
