Attorney General Karl Racine has filed suit against two MPD officers (apparently a married couple) for sending their three kids to DCPS schools while living outside the District. This come from a tweet by Martin Austermuhle which you can find here:

He copied a press release as a graphic, which I don't know if you will be able read:

Fantastic news! It is about time that the District cracks down on residency fraud.

+1 not let's focus on the regular citizens.

This is great news! Hope there are more prosecutions to come.

On a related note, I am a little sad that many working class families (especially ones that serve our communities) can't afford to live in the city. Read article today that average 1 bedroom in DC is $2,000. Not condoning the officers.

+1Million. DC should 1) advertise these cases as much as possible and 2) COLLECT TUITION ALWAYS, even if it takes years. simply catching the cheaters and kicking the kids out does not work since the cheaters, at worst, would have to leave the school. if people knew that, when caught, they will have to pay back tuition, they may think twice about cheating.

Yes, this is a concern. It has become of a city of the poor, middle class living like they are poor, and the wealth.

the officers can send their kids to school where they live. there are plenty of schools in MD and VA where they lived. no reason to cheat.

And in 2003 when this fraud began, 1BR were most certainly not $2,000.

how much is the tuition for a Maryland child to go to school at a DC public school?

Let's focus on ALL the cheaters.

Dang. DC is suing for three times what they owed in tuition. This is a very strong message. Kids were at Eaton, Deal and Wilson, for those who didn't read the whole thing.

Everyone knew Eaton had many students who were not resident during that time frame. The classic quote of what ward is Landover in comes from Eaton. Wasn't the Principal from Eaton at the time doing the same thing?

Cops make enough to live in the city, for christsakes. Ft Dupont, Deanwood, Michigan Park - there are DC cops living all over this city.
