Audio Book Recommendations

Anonymous
My kids (9 and 7) seem to love audio books--including books that come with audio readers. We have a couple that my kids have listened to more than once but I'd like to get more from the library (or purchase if need be) for summer road trips etc. They're favorites right now are The Polar Express (I know!) and Mr. Popper's Penguins.

Any other recommendations? They like a variety of books (and we've already read aloud the first couple Harry Potter's so that's out).
Thanks!

Anything Raold Dahl is awesome, I agree, we have listened to so many of them.
Mrs. Piggle Wiggle's magic
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
The Doll people
Shiloh
Peter Pan

The Beverly Cleary Books like:
Th Mouse and the Motorcycle series
Henry Huggins, Henry and Ribsy
The Ramona books

these are the ones I can think if off the top of my head that we've listened to.

I have used some free app, but the reading quality is not very good and they can be disappointing and not as engaging for your kids.

I don't know where you live, but if it is in DC, the DCPL has a really fabulous selection of kids audio books, it's quite huge.

Thanks all! And any recommendations of great picture books that come with audio CDs. As I said, my LO loves to listen to The Polar Express and look at the book.

The best way to get kid interested in the classics is by introducing them to the audio first, with or without the book.

Gutenberg Library has Beatrix Potter and other classics, available to download or stream. I know they have a bunch of others, but I forgot what they are, will check later.

My kid loves the Ghosthunters series by Cornelia Funke.

DC Public Library has a great collection that you can filter by age and download (if you are a DC resident).

We like the DK Audiobooks which come with a real book. Great for the car since it also has pictures. Here is one:
