| Does anyone know somewhere I could volunteer with my 5 year old son that involves helping people or animals? |

| It's hard to volunteer with kids in many places. It's a risk for the volunteer group first to have kids on site. This is true for animals too. Second, considering the populations that some volunteer organizations deal with it might not be an appropriate environment for a young child. |

Your church congregation or parish will have volunteer opportunities.
Check there first. Churches always have several that are appropriate for young children. |
Oh, it's the poster who assumes everyone goes to church. It's Sunday, why aren't you in church? |
Completely unnecessary and snide. This is a very good suggestion. Churches hsve many service opportunities, with seversl that are very appropriate for children or for family to do together. Just off the top of my hesd, in our immediate area neighborhood churches have a couple of food pantries, making sandwiches to deliver to a homeless shelter (They make the sandwiches at the church and deliver to the shelter), a work camp where teens go spend a week in appalachia doing habitat for humanity type work, collections for a woman's shelter and crisis nursery, and an echemunicsl charity store. There is more, including holiday specific events, but this is what I can think of off the top of my head. Churches are a great place to introduce your young child to serving others. PS Churches don't usually have Sunday services at 7:00 AM. |
