table runner and rug

If you have a table runner, do you also have a rug under the table? Is it okay if they don't match?
We have a romanian rug (think kind of persianish but simpler) underneath our dining room table. I'm debating on getting rid of it and just using a table runner for a cleaner look (and cleaner dining experience with our toddler!, but I feel like the floors in the kitchen may look a bit "empty." |
