My wife will soon be having spinal surgery and before she does we would like to upgrade our mattress since she'll have extended bed rest. It's also just time. We like relatively firm mattresses and I like memory foam but worry about getting too hot. So- hit me- what do you love?

We bought natural organic latex from savvyrest. Love it! If you get a king size, you can customize each side to the firmness you desire. Its expensive - I have heard that there are knowck-offs you can get online, but ont know anything about those.

Latex - Pure Bliss Nature with or without a topper. (we got one but I like it plush - without it, much firmer) - try them at the the healthy back store and order from http://www.matt-to-go.com We just got one from him and he was much cheaper even with shipping and amazing to work with. I tried to get Healthy Back Store to price match but they kept being sketchy about it so I gave up.

Also, Wayfair has an nice basic rize adjustable bed for the best price that works great with the latex mattress and was affordable. I looked at but it was much more expensive than Pure Bliss and not 100% of the good latex that Pure Bliss was.

We got ours a few weeks ago. I was nervous about ordering it all but it was fine. One concern with the new memory foam is some have a horrible smell. I almost went with a tempurpedic but the smell talked about online concerned me.

Thanks PPs. Any others?

Tempurpedic has changed my life (and saved my back). If I were buying now, though, I'd also look closely at Tuft & Needle.

Go to Urban Mattress in Vienna -- great selection of memory foam and latex mattresses, and unlike the big chains, they really know their stuff and can guide you in the right direction. We ended up going with a memory foam mattress by Sherwood Bedding, and within a week, my lower back pain was practically gone. The one we got has cooling gel in the foam, so we have had no issues with heat.

I just spent a small fortune on a Serta iComfort for a family member with severe back issues. I was wary because it is an advertised brand and it is memory foam like Tempurpedic, for which there are lots of complaints of to much heat. This was a worry because FM is also susceptible to night sweats. The iComfort has cooling technology and so far there are not complaints on that score.

FM likes soft, so we went with that. We also bought the adjustable bed mechanism, which has contributed a lot to the comfort factor, especially the zero gravity position. I suggest you look at the adjustable bed mechanism to add to comfort. I did not price out the Tempurpedic, but I think by going with the cheaper iComfort and adjustable bed, at Memorial Day pricing, we came out with something cheaper than a Tempurpedic mattress alone, but with the adjustable feature, which has been very helpful.

My Casper is scheduled to arrive today...I'll have a better opinion by next week. I'm 7 months pregnant, and desperate for a better night's rest!

sleepez.com. Go to the Savvy Rest store in Vienna and try out latex mattresses, then order from sleepez for half the price.

1 - check out mattress underground to learn more about the different types:
http://www.themattressunderground.com/

2- after you get a sense of what you want and what your needs are go to a local store to try out a few.

3 - either buy locally at a small store that knows their stuff - or online.

We purchased a latex mattress online from Sleep EZ. After we slept on it for a while I purchased a topper and it has worked out really well - for a fraction of the price from a local store.

We have memory foam and I don't think I'll ever go back. I love to be hot while sleeping, but my memory foam doesn't seem hotter than any other mattress.
