I'm currently a GS 13-7, but in order to get my 14 I would need to take my boss position once he retires (in about 7 years). I'm actually not interested in being a supervisor, but considering looking into non-supervisory 14's.
Have I waited to late to make this move? |

I don't know why you think it might be too late. I'd look into a non-supervisory 14 job, if you're looking to move up or make more money. I've also heard of some people being successful in turning their GS 13 job into GS 14.
I recently topped out. I'm not in a hurry to move up to the next level (yet). |
| I'm a non-supervisory GS-14 in a technical field, and I intend to stay put. If I become a GS-15, I'd have to be a team leader and put up with a ton of administrative b.s. and attend a lots of time-wasting meetings every week. The dubious increase in prestige is not worth it to me, and the extra money is not an issue because my husband outearns me by far. |

I've asked our Director about bumping me up to the 14, but in order for me to bump to the 14, she would need to bump my supervisor to the 15 and she doesn't care for her too much. My only option currently is to look for other jobs within my same line of duties at another agency. If I get a 14, I'm ok with staying until step 10 and beyond. |
That's not really how it works, but ok. I can't believe you'd go around your boss to the director to ask for an increase in grade. |
OP here, I didn't go around my boss to ask. They were thinking about hiring us some help and then that's when I brought up promotions for us. |

Were those positions already set up like that? How would this fly in my case where they would have to reclassify my position and advertise. I wonder how my boss would feel. |

| I think it varies by agency. A few years ago, my agency did away with non-supervisory GS-15 positions through attrition. The new policy is that GS-14 is the highest non-supervisory grade level, and there are several GS-14 supervisors. |
