Lake house vs Beach house?

Anonymous
Pros and cons of both? We have always wanted a beach house but suddenly I'm feeling that a lake house might be more economical and get more use. We live in NoVa and would buy in Wrightsville NC if a beach house, or on Smith Mountain Lake if a lake house. Have 2 kids aged 5 and 7. Just looking for some General opinions, thanks so much!!

We have a lake house and wouldn't trade it for a beach house for anything. A beach house gets like four months of use per year. A lake house in the right location can get used all year long. We go to the house in the summer for the lake and in the winter for skiing/snowboarding. Lake house was cheaper too. And we don't worry about hurricanes or constant maintenance issues (salt water is horrible for beach houses). Just my two cents.

We have both and use the lake house more. But, the sound of ocean waves is one the best sounds in the world!

We grew up spending our summers in a northern Michigan lake house. We loved it! The community, water sports, and the option (although we never exercised it) of skiing in the winter.

I grew up in a resort community, and I'd much rather have a beach house. There just is nothing like cool ocean breezes and falling asleep to the sound of lapping waves.

Wrightsville?
Try going a little further south to the Brunswick County Beaches

You are either a lake house person or a beach house person. I am posting from my beach house now and I wouldn't trade it for 10 lake houses.

I would prefer a beach house, but only if right on the beach.

Beach house but only from a non-party area (not Ocean City)

+1 heaven. If I could afford a beach house, I'd get one.

I grew up going to a nearby beach so I'm a beach person. But I do love a good lake or mountain house.

What about beach VS bay?

Beach house for me but they tend to be way more expensive. It would probably have better resale value though. Personally I hate lakes. I hate touching down on the plants. Shudder.

The bay is boring and you can't swim in the water. The amateur boaters are dangerous. It's hot with not much breeze. the bay sucks.

Well at a beach house/ in the ocean, you might get touched by more than plants; like maybe jellyfish or sharks!
