Clearances, going out of business sales, etc

Not that I'm dying to take advantage of retailers' hard times, but I need to do some big-ticket shopping, and I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction.

I need most of a new wardrobe. I've lost a lot of weight in the last couple months, and my pants are literally falling down.

And, I need a piece of furniture for my dining room. Not a set (well, I'd like a set) but just a console/buffet type side table.

So has anyone seen any great sales? In the District is best, but I realize I'll probably have to go to the suburbs. The closer in, the better.
