Infertility Support and Discussion

I'll be starting lupron at the end of May, which happens to coincide with a trip to San Francisco. Have you all had issues traveling with your injections (because I am assuming, there are needles involved, with Lupron injections, right?). Do you just pack them in checked baggage. I'm assuming I will do that absent any issues with timing, i.e., I need my injection while I'm on the plane. Apologize in advance for my "new" question, but I am just beginning the process... Oh, and was it difficult to give yourself that first injection. I realize that I may not have the ideal conditions if I have to do this in an airport or airplane bathroom... |

I would carry on your needles and meds (heaven forbid your luggage is delayed or lost). Make sure Rx labels are on -definitely double check with your doc to see if they recommend everything.
For my lupron injections, the meds had to be kept in the fridge. See what your RE recommends. I think they can be room temp for a while, but you probably want to be aware of their true "shelf life" at that temp. First injection is the hardest. Let the alcohol dry first, and squeeze the skin (like you are pinching fat). Put the needle in quickly, but don't jam it in. You will do fine! And after a day or two, you will be pro. |

I had no problems traveling with my Gonal-F injections (including the needles and the ice packs to keep it cool). Just let TSA know you have medications - they never batted an eye. I would keep them with you, not check them, just in case. And yes, make sure they have the original prescription labels, though TSA never checked. Better safe than sorry.
After your first injection, you'll wonder what the big deal is. Take your time. It doesn't hurt a bit (though I only have experience with Gonal-F and Ovidrel). Good luck!! |
| i actually got a written note from my doc for traveling with needles; definitely check on the Lupron -- it does need to be refrigerated after you open it so make sure you have a fridge in your hotel room and then can travel with ice packs coming and going. |
| I travelled to SF with my Lupron and needles and a note from my doctor. No troubles with it at all. |
| TSA agents deal with this all the time... diabetics, lots of people have meds that require shots. Not to worry about the airport part, at least. |
