Renovating Kitchen - Recs on Contractors?

Anonymous
Hi,
We just bought a house in NW DC and will be renovating the kitchen - either w small addition above garage or by knocking down dividing wall between kitchen and den. Not a huge job, but big enough to almost drive me crazy.

I'm looking for any suggestions on contractors folks have used for similar projects. Also, if people have ideas on what to look for when considering our contractor, that would be helpful too.

Thanks in advance for your input.

This person just did a beautiful kitchen for my friend in Vienna. Not sure how often he works in DC, but totally worth a call. He does beautiful work!

We are going through the same thing and a little further down the line. I don't have a contractor to recommend yet because we haven't done any actual work, just planning so I'd hate to vouch for someone before I've seen their work. But, we spoke with 4 different contractors. Talk to a few different ones. If possible, have them walk the space with you, which will give you a better estimate. Think about things like lighting, molding, painting, refinishing floors, changing out windows, etc. Make sure you understand what is and is not included in their estimate. And, most importantly, if you find someone you like, lock them down quickly. Contractors are bidding on lots of jobs at once and if something else hits, they will not hesitate to move forward. We lost 2 contractors this way because they quickly got other jobs that came in. Good luck.
