My daughter is going to Camp Letts for a week this summer. I'm wondering -- are the cabins cold, hot, what? I think camping and I think it gets cold at night, but then I think Maryland in late summer, and think it could be really hot and humid in the cabins.
Any other advice about packing or preparing is much appreciated. This is her first sleep-away experience, and I never did sleep-away camp as a kid. |
| Contact the organization that she is going to Camp Letts with and ask them your questions. My DD went many years ago to Camp Letts with the YMCA and they gave a packing list, avg temps for day and night, and all sorts of information. My DD use to go camping every summer with the GS and we never stressed too much about these items. I will give you a tip about packing:buy the extra large ziploc bags(larger than gallon size) and pack each days clothes in the bags to include socks and underclothes. Makes organizing much easier, and she can put her dirty clothes back in the baggie and not have them soil the other clothing. Make sure you have a poncho for possible rain, a sweatshirt for cold nights and at least 1 pair of long pants/jeans. Pack clothes that can get dirty. |

It's the Y, and they did give a packing list, but it's not very specific on what the bring for pajamas. She picked out a strappy-top nightgown, and I'm worried she'll be freezing. Shortie PJ's? Long?
Also, she's 9 -- do kids that age bring stuffed animals to camp? She's actually never slept without one. |
| Pack the stuffed animal. She can decide when it's bedtime if she wants to sleep with it. My DD takes short and long fuzzy pj pants. She pairs them with a tank top or l/s shirt depending on the night. |

The cabins are hot. Have her bring a fan. They strongly recommended that at the open house last year and turned out to be necessary.
My son went for first time last year. Loved it and wanted to go for two weeks this year. |
| Oooh -- a fan -- I never would have thought of that. How big a fan are we talking about? I've seen the ones that go around your neck, but I guess bigger than that? |
Bigger than that. Get one that is battery operated and can clip onto something. Maybe like 6 inches in diameter. |
