In search of the elusive dress that will look polished for chasing kids around during summer and can be dressed up without much thought, I came upon these two Garnet Hill dresses. Thoughts?
http://www.garnethill.com/easy-banded-waist-dress/388973?&defattribvalue=main http://www.garnethill.com/asymmetrical-knit-tank-dress/392196?&defattribvalue=main I am on the short side (5'4") so definitely don't want anything I'll be swimming in. If you've ordered this style of dress from Garnet Hill before, did you find it too flowy? Other suggestions/links for easy pull on dresses that can be dressed up or down? Not interested in REI style sporty ones. Thank you! |
| I like the first one more than the second. I find that non asymetrical dresses look messy on me. I am also looking for similar type clothing so I'll keep a lookout on this thread. |
|
I like the first one much better but I never wear tank tops, so ...
I don't own anything like the first dress from Garnet Hill but I own similar styles from other cheaper stores. I'll try to find some links. |
| I ordered the first one last year. Had to return it because it looked like a maternity dress on me, but that may just be my body type (I'm a size 10 so on the larger side). |
|
This one is on sale at boden, I definitely recommend it:

| THey look a little too loose for my taste (might read frumpy or maternity). I really like a lot of Boden's dresses and they have a 25% off sale on dresses today. |
|
I like the first one. So not a fan of the potato sack dress, and the asymmetry makes everything look worse. |
|
I also like the first better than the second. I think a waist is a must.
I was also going torecommend Boden - they have a lot of jersey dresses, often in fun prints. Finally, check out Lands End. This is a staple for them and they have lots of options: http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-fit-and-flare-dress/id_280128 Ok,this one doesn't have a waist, but I think a pattern is better than no pattern for this - otherwise it's too shapeless: http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-short-sleeve-boatneck-shift-dress---pattern/id_284130 At 5'4" (my height, too) petite sizing for dresses often works better for the "not swimming in them" look. |
|
I'm actually wearing #1 right now - it's really low cut and looks a little awkward with a camp underneath, but is super, super comfortable.
#2 looks like it would be comfy but maybe shapeless. Have you looked at Lands End? I like their cotton dresses a lot, too. |
Sorry that should say cami |
|
I like the second one but think you need to be a bean pole to wear it
the first one could be hit or miss - depending on how standard your body size is and where the cut lies, if that makes sense. |
|
I have always returned almost everything from this place.
It all looks like shit IRL. My husband says the dresses look like "potato sacks'. He was right. Things are very widely cut. I started to think maybe they were like Lane Bryant. |
|
I have the first -- it runs huge so size down. I am 36C and I'm wearing either a small or an x-small in this!
Be aware that if you are bloated when you put this on, you WILL look pregnant. Definitely for those flat stomach days. |
|
I think they look dowdy.
Maybe this one? http://www.garnethill.com/eileen-fisher-viscose-jersey-bateau-neck-dress/womens-fashion/dresses/393428?&defattribvalue=main |
| I liked them but very casual |
