We're in Potomac. Anyone have someone reasonable to come out and clean a dryer vent? Thanks!

Most are, yes. But this can be worth doing one time for a new house that you moved into that had pets, or when you recently had construction done.

Okay, I used Dapper Ducts on a recommendation from this board and they did a great job. The guy showed me exactly what he was doing and that there were legitimate problems with debris and mold in our ducts. Do a search here, because there are a number of other recommendations also.

Yes, I would never normally have it done but it's part of the home inspection for our buyers and I think it's something we can do cheaply but want to check before agreeing to it. (OP here)

PS - I'm not talking duct cleaning. I'm talking about cleaning just the dryer vent...

This is a very simple diy task. Youtube it.

Duct cleaning isn't usually necessary, but the dryer duct and vent should be cleaned every 1-2 years (it actually really depends on how long it is and how many bends.) Dryers are big cause of house fires.

9:38 here - sorry I focused on duct cleaning due to the "scam" reply because the scams are associated with duct cleaning, not dryer vent cleaning. Dapper Ducts will do your dryer vent also. 50 bucks, I think.

Do it yourself, and enjoy a nice bottle of wine afterwards.

If you already have a shop vac, then it is pretty much fool proof.

We just did ours a few days ago ourselves. We are NOT big DIYers but this was super easy.

I was trying to find someone to do this earlier this spring, and most places will only do it if you have your ducts cleaned also (to the tune of hundreds of dollars).

So we bought a kit off Amazon that attaches to a cordless drill. It was super easy. My completely non-handy husband did it himself in about 20 minutes.
