Just wondering if this partial-day immersion is worth it (I mean for child to be outside neighborhood school and to only get partial immersion). Any parents with kids there? Are you happy with the program and the school? |
Not at this school but DS is in dual-immersion (= partial immersion because only half the day is in Spanish) in Arlington and travels to the other side of the county -- definitely worth it. It's great to learn a language through content instruction (instead of learning a language in a language course) and DS is developing a great vocabulary because language arts, science, math, music and art are taught in Spanish (art and music alternate by year). |
Have you looked up any studies on partial immersion? They are uniformly positive. It is so striking, the benefits of early immersion are so clear not only in language acquisition but in other areas of cognitive skills and abstract thinking. Children who've received the advantage of early language immersion consistently outperform their mono-lingual peers. If you have the opportunity to give your child an immersion education you should jump on it. You could be spending $25 - $30K per year on the area's most highly-regarded private schools and still not getting your child an education of this quality. |
Where is this program? |
Sorry- it's in MoCo, near Takoma Park. |
You CAN do immersion? This isn't hypothetical, but you got into an immersion program? Take it and don't look back!

No, I am trying to decide whether to apply for both Rolling Terrace (partial immersion) and Rock Creek Forest (full immersion) or just the full immersion program. We would definitely do Rock Creek Forest if the kids get in, but I am less excited about partial immersion. However, if there are parents out there who are very happy with the program I'd love to hear more about it. |
