I'm tired of not....wondering what other views are out there (yes I realize if I'm pregnant then it'll be more than 2 weeks, but I've been trying for over a year.....)

I was on vacation in the Dominican Republic during my TWW in February this year. We were at an all inclusive resort and I drank every day. I say drink until you see pink. I'm now 18 weeks and so far so good.

SERIOUSLY, HAVE A DRINK!

Unless you're talking about dramatically over-indulging, which might impact your fertility.

What does the research really say about this? FWIW I drink during the 2 WW but am not clear what the risks are as some say it's fine and others do not.

For me there is just no way not to drink around friends and family without inviting a host of questions. I am a private person and don't want the whole world to know we're trying, especially because it's not happening for us yet, so I still drink but try to use moderation. I do worry though that if I end up pregnant people will do backwards math from the due date to figure out if I was drinking while pregnant and judge me silently for doing so. I.e OMG she had margaritas with us during book club/at so and so's birthday/at that Christmas party and she was pregnant. Not like anyone would say this to my face but I know how judge-y people are.

In the first two weeks the baby is getting nothing from you, its in the little embryonic yolk. Plenty of people don't even know they're pregnant for a couple months and drink like fish. Anyone who backdates your pregnancy to some specific date and remembers you drinking is an ahole, don't worry about them!

My doctor told me during my preconception appointment to avoid alcohol during the TWW because it could interfere with implantation. I did some research on Google and found there was some support for this, so I've decided to abstain. I think it's likely that drinking poses little risk during this time, but I prefer to be overly cautious.

And like you, I'm a very private person, AND there's no way that people won't raise eyebrows if I'm not drinking. I've skirted it so far with, "I'm just really tired/not feeling great today," but I know that won't last forever. I'm thinking of starting to say, "I'm trying to cut out alcohol so I can lose a little weight" because I've recently lost 20+ lbs.

Both of my pregnancies occurred when I indulged a few times during the TWW. And my OB said to enjoy a drink or two, but not to go overboard.

I have been really good and avoiding alcohol and other things that I probably didn't have to avoid during the TWW for a year...then we went on vacation out of the country and I figured it wasn't going to happen ... so I drank wine, the local liquor, ate all kinds of soft cheese and other "questionable" local things, even got a UTI and took some antibiotic over the counter from a local pharmacy...and what do you know. BFP a day after we get back. Doctors all say (now) that it's not a big deal and quite common...that it was basically a cluster of cells and will matter more now that it's developing into a formed being (but with the caveat that I shouldn't use that as an excuse to KEEP drinking now that I know I'm pregnant!).

Drinking during the TWW will not cause damage to a future fetus. It might interfere with conception. But that period's called the "all or none" period by geneticists - because cells aren't differentiated in an embryo, exposure to toxins may kill a cell that's replaced by another undifferentiated one (and too much exposure may prevent conception) but it won't cause tetarogenic damage. Hence, "drink until you see pink".But drink on the moderate end of things if you're trying to boost fertility.
