We have an old, extra fridge in the garage. I think I read somewhere that old fridges are horribly inefficient. Plus, it gets pretty hot in our garage, and the freezer is mostly empty (it's a fridge for drinks). That thing is running all the time. I know I need to get rid of it, but are the drinks fridges that are super insulated to keep in places like garages, or should we just get a bev fridge for inside (somewhere)? thanks for any thoughts...... |
If you have Pepco, they'll pay you for it:

OP here - thanks for that! |
You are probably paying $20+ per month to run that fridge. You can't fit drinks in your main fridge? I moved the drinks out of my garage because my kids started sneaking sodas constantly. |
We kept an old fridge in our garage for 5 years, thinking we might use it for parties etc. By the time we got round to plugging it in to use, it was all moldy inside. we got rid of it.
No one needs two fridges. |
Lots of people have two fridges. I always had an extra when we were growing up and now have an extra as an adult. Our counter depth fridge does not hold enough for our family of four and when our boys are big and eating more I cannot imagine how we will not have two. That being said, our extra is in a well-insulated basement, not a garage, and is full with drinks, Costco purchases, and big containers that don't fit in our fridge. |
We don't need two by we have two and we use them quite a bit. We also have a beverage under counter refrigerator inside. Worry about your own miserable life and stop telling people what they need. |
OP here, thanks. Yes it is useful to have two, but I think garage is a huge issue this summer in our situation. We have a counter-depth fridge in the kitchen as well. Basement is a good option. But I am definitely clearing out the garage one and unplugging this weekend thanks to all the feedback here. |
Our basement fridge was one my sister gave to us when she redid her kitchen. It was at least 15 years old. When it broke, we got a new one at Sears for like 300 bucks - the most basic model. It is using FAR less electricity. |
