We just moved and have a large round foyer. I need suggestions for some sort of rug that'll work with two small children (running etc) and dirty shoes. I put in a Normal rug and it's basically ruined now. An indoor/outdoor rug? Help! |
Definitely indoor/outdoor. When mine is filthy I take it outside and hose it down. And spot clean with laundry detergent. The smaller rugs get hosed down in my shower easier. |
Pp where did you get yours? |
I have a very small foyer, but I did this rug in a 4'x4' square and it looks really good. There is a kind of busy/modern rug in my office right off the foyer, so I needed something plain. This is tightly woven, rough so it is good for wiping feet on, but easy to clean. And affordable (I think it was around $50) so if it gets gross over a couple years I dont' feel bad replacing it. Rubber backed too, which is nice not to have a separate pad under it.
Some jute is great, some is no good for an entry mat. Just make sure the rug is plenty large enough for someone to step in and close the door (side to side and/or front to back) without stepping off. 4x4 was the smallest I thought would work (and takes up most of my little entry hall). http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Fiber-Marble-Light-Gray/dp/B002XWCCTU/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433266330&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=safavieh+gray+square+jute |
overstock! Great selection. Mine isn't plasticy. |
My problem is that we have a small doorway area that leads into a larger round entry. If I put a mat as you enter the house the door won't physically open. Basically a mat can't be there. So I need something for the round area.
pp I have jute in my dining room. Does your tear from wear? |
No, this jute is almost more like a... I don't know what I would copare it to. It is very very tightly woven, almost like a single piece of cloth I guess. It's rough but also very nice looking, and doesn't tear at all. I do need to be careful when vacuuming it and not use the roller head on it or it will pull up little fibers that stick out (not a lot, but I see them). |
We got a cheap Persian rug from eBay. Works great! |
FLOR may have some good options. And if parts of it get really worn, you can replace just a few squares instead of the whole thing. They have cheaper, more durable lines. |
I wouldn't do too because it's so uncomfortable to sit on. We have kids sitting down to put on/take off shoes etc. in the foyer all the time. |
Floor cloth. |
I love Ballard's indoor/outdoor rugs. I have one in our entry and love it! Easy to clean. |
We have something called 'the original boot and shoe mat' that is very thin profile. |
