Kind of off topic, but I want to plan a nice summer trip that we can take, but that isn't a ton of planning or stressful, because I am dealing with maybe our first IVF cycle starting in July. Cost isn't a barrier -- we can fly somewhere exotic, but don't want it to be super far or somewhere where I will be worried about getting sick from water/food etc. Any advice on locations or how to time a vacation with IVF would be greatly appreciated. Honestly taking exciting trips is the only thing that makes me happy in this whole process -- the one benefit of not having kids yet (and sleeping in).
Thanks! |
| I'm going to try and plan a fresh cycle around a family reunion in Florida. Ideally, I'd like to be gone some time during the 2ww, shortly after the transfer. I don't want to travel with injectibles that require refrigiration. |

We didn't go on a real vacation during IF because of money/used up vacation days because we had just done a massive 30-plus day trip to walk the Camino de Santiago (from the French boarder to the ocean). I can certainly understand if walking 12-20 miles a day for 33 or so days might not be for everyone. However, I have two friends who are starting to cycle and one went on an amazing trip to Japan where she stayed in a Buddhist temple overnight and meditated/prayed with the monks in the morning. The other went to Morocco and I haven't heard about her trip yet, but I was excited for her. No matter what, do take a trip! IT will help! It took an IVF and 2 FETs (not including a cancelled FET) for me to get pregnant, and I consider myself one of the fortunate people. IF is a long road and traveling beforehand is a great way to relax before what can be a fraught experience. Best wishes to you!

| We went to Greece while we were TTC, then there was a planned trip to Mexico which I hoped would be the babymoon, but it was when I had my first testing and consult for IF, since then (about half a year) we visited my in-laws once (in another country) but nothing else planned. I am lucky to have some IVF coverage, but meds, crio, PGS are all out of pocket, so no vacation trips for me. |

How about an adults only resort after your cycle? Or Miami and the Florida keys?
You need to be around a week after the two week wait for at least two betas. Then you need to be around for a six and eight week u/s so keep those weeks open. Other than that your schedule is fine. |
We took off a cycle and went to Italy and drank lots of wine.
|
| After a failed cycle, we went to Thailand. The flights are expensive, but once you get there it is SO cheap. We absolutely loved it. I couldn't recommend anywhere more! |
| I second all the suggestions to take off during your TWW. And if cost isn't a factor, then I like PP's Thailand suggestion. Bon voyage!! |
| The Cove at Atlantis. If you want nicer, do one and only there. |
| Frankly, I would do it before you start the cycle or wait a few months. It would be great to time it for during your 2ww, but you won't know too far in advance when that will be so it will be hard to plan anything that requires too many logistics. Once you start the cycle, you will have to deal with refrigerated vials (even though it's allowed I wouldn't want to have to explain that to TSA) and frequent monitoring. And if you drink alcohol, if you decide to abstain during your cycle (I didn't, but some do), then decide if that will be counter to things you'd like to enjoy during your travels. Even after a BFP, you will need to go in for some additional monitoring until they release you to your OB. And I don't think you want to even plan a trip assuming you get a BFN. |
| didnt. |
| before you start IVF. So, before or while you are on BCPs, but not once you start the rest of hte process. I planned a trip 4 weeks after transfer and couldnt go on it because I was in the hospital with an ectopic pregnancy. |

Thanks everyone! OP here. So I am starting my cycle this week -- we will likely sit this one out and plan to start IVF next month, around July 1. But I don't get the timing of things... assuming I get my next period July 1, when is roughly the best time to go on vacation (ie when I am on BCP)?
Thanks! |
| Hi OP. I started BCP on day 4 or 5 of my cycle and was on BCP for 20-23 days each time. Have a fabulous vacation! |
