Rug for kitchen/dining

We are moving into a house with an open floor plan so our dining table will be off the kitchen and will be used daily now. I need a new rug for under the table - is sisal what I want? If mr what is best for high traffic and potential food/drink spills? No pets just 2 kids.

We got an indoor/outdoor rug. Low pile, but soft on the feet. Washes really easily (and our kids are very hard on rugs).
