As a member of MomsRising.org, I urge you to demonstrate your commitment to healthcare reform in the federal budget.

President Obama offered a significant down payment investment in his budget proposal to promote meaningful healthcare reform. The $634 billion he proposed in a healthcare reserve fund over the next ten years provides a good starting point for the healthcare reform investment needed in the federal budget.

I urge you to support the President's proposal, and I hope you will work with the President and your colleagues to build the larger investment needed so that meaningful healthcare reform becomes a reality this year.

Millions of laid-off workers are losing their health coverage when they lose their jobs. Families are being forced into staggering medical debt that threatens to push them into mortgage default and bankruptcy. Escalating costs stifle small business innovation and diminish the ability of our companies to compete overseas. Far too many American families are left without the care they need to stay healthy.

Our nation cannot afford to wait. Please add sufficient support in the healthcare reserve fund so we can succeed in providing high-quality, affordable healthcare for everyone.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. President-I am happy with my healthcare and don't want you to screw it up. I understand that my healthcare is my responsibility and not my neighbors and I will make arrangements if either myself or my husband get laid off to pay our insurance bill before we buy our big screen. Thank you.

Did you know the average family policy costs $14,000 a year? And that if you have any type of pre-existing condition, like diabetes or high blood pressure, you likely can't even get it? Not everyone is without coverage because of messed up priorities. You are damned lucky you work somewhere that provides coverage. Not everyone does.

But in all honesty, if we behaved ourselves and did not get fat, smoke, or drive drunk, there would be TONS of money left over for every child with a rare disease.
Also, if we held off on the big screen TV and the jacuzzi tubs theer would be even more money.

Nice idea. Why don't YOU start your OWN petition!

Thanks so much!

Where did we get the money for the war in Iraq? Take it out of that ass.

How would you propose we get money out of Iraq? Seriously?

That, and curbed medical malpractice suits, we'd be hooked.

How about telling Congress we cannot afford universal health care if we have to borrow to have it; if they had a true will to provide this they would spend less in other areas. The government is like a household - you cannot just magically make the money grow on trees (well, maybe the Fed can ) - something else has to give if you want to spend more money in other areas.

I love the idea of universal health care - so long as they can find a way to pay for it out of current revenues, not borrowing against the future. Didn't we already learn that we over-leverage our credit at our own peril after the real estate debacle?

Any lobbyists out there for the food industry? Perhaps if they didn't foist all that junk on the American public, particularly children, we'd be healthier. Demand for health care would decrease, and there would be lots of money for free health care for all provided by the federal government, without raising taxes.

While you are waiting for the demise of the American food industry, buy local, organic, additive-free food, and cook it yourself. You'll spend less on health care, and get that nice big TV.

Come to think of it, McDonald's never forced a Big Mac down my throat. Choices, choices.
