What kind of treatments would you recommend as a start for a 6 yr old boy with ADHD (impulsiveness, hyperactivity and inattentive)? Currently, his main issue is impulsiveness (aggressive to other kids). He doesn't have other diagnoses.
Would ABA (Applied Behavioral Therapy) appropriate for him? TIA |
| For my 7 yr old with ADHD and ASD, the best treatment for the ADHD is medication. ABA has never been recommended for him even though he has an ASD/Asperger's type diagnosis. |

Yes, ABA or behavioral therapy is appropriate, especially toward aggressiveness toward other kids.
Our OT used to do the "how is your engine running" program--red, yellow, green. Red meant overexcited and needing to regulate, green--okay, yellow feeling sluggish. The Kazdin Method is a good read for learning how to address unwanted behaviors. Is speech an issue? Some kids with ADHD can benefit from a social skills group to help them learn to interact with others. |
