Earliest date for c-section

Anonymous
I am scheduled to have a c-section (b/c I had a c-section for my first). What is the earliest that you have been permitted by your OB to schedule your c-section? 37th week? 38th week? or later? I understand that any baby born in the 37th week or later is deemed a full-term. Of coruse, my question assumes that there are no medical indications suggesting a need for an earlier c-section. Your experience is appreciated. Thanks.

my doc wouldn't induce before week 39 and I wound up with an emergency csection on week 38--I am assuming she won't due the csection before week 39 as well for this one (I'm not doing vbac).

I delivered via c-section at 38 weeks with #2. I believe they will go 14 days before your due date but some doctors may be different. I was due on 6/21 and delivered on 6/8.

It depends on the practice. Mine (2141 k) won't do scheduled cs before 39 weeks.

I had to have a C with #1 and my doctor was pushing me for 37 and I pushed back to 39 weeks, with the thinking: the longer DC cooks, the better, and if there is any mis-calculation in conception date, going earlier could be too early. I'm trying for a VBAC with #2.

So, I guess to answer your question, my last OB would schedule at 37 weeks.

it may also depend on WHY you are doing the c-section -- in this case b/c you had one prior and nothing to do with the current prgnancy? my sched c section was 10 days prior to my due date... DS was breech, my uterus was malformed pre-prgnancy, and they just didn't want to take any chances of me going into labor (but wanted to wait as long as possible as well).

My cousin had placenta previa and they scheduled the c-section for 37 weeks (did an amnio first to make sure lungs were mature, etc.) because they REALLY did not want her going into labor. This was considered pretty early.

I am having a scheduled c-section in a few weeks and my practice wants to wait until 39 weeks.

I have heard from my doula that some doctors allowing the patient to go into early labor before performing the C-section. I don't think this is too common b/c most doctors & patients prefer to schedule the C, but some moms want to wait until the last moment (this option probably depends on why the mom is having the C to begin with).

My scheduled CS was at 38 weeks. The doctor was a little worried about lung maturity even at that time, but the baby was absolutely fine.

I'm in the same boat. I had a c-section with #1 at 39 weeks. I'm wondering when they will schedule for #2. Does anyone have experience with Foxhall OBGYN?

I am a Foxhall ObGyn patient and they wanted me to schedule my c-section at 39 weeks. Because I wanted my doctor (Dr. Engel) to perform it, I end up having my section 9 days before my due date since that was the closest day to 39 weeks that he was on call. I didn't ask because I was in no hurry, but I got the impression that they wouldn't have let me go any earlier without a medical reason.

I had my last c-section with Dr. Engel. He is great. All the doctors told me the scar was great. It was a great experience. Best of luck to you!
