If you don't get into PK3 this year - daycare openings?

Anonymous
Will your child be enrolled at a daycare? I just moved to NW DC/Woodley Park/Kalorama Triangle area and it's not looking good for us in Round 2 to get in anywhere nearby. DC is still in their previous MOCO daycare. Do daycare waitlists open up some bc a good amount of kids do get into PK3? If you know of any openings at your daycare/preschool - could you share? NW DC would be ideal but willing to drive elsewhere in DC for a great place....thanks so much!

Yes, a fair number of spots open up in daycare centers with PK3 programming. We actually got into a PK3 spot but aren't taking it because we like the program at our center.

If you're up for Spanish immersion, try Kids Corner in Kalorama. If you work downtown, try some of those centers, too.

Yes, particularly the downtown centers have more openings in the 3-4 year old range if those work for you. In NW west of the park I think there is less movement because there aren't many (only Hyde I think?) PK3 DCPS.

I had no problem this year getting a 3 year old spot for my daughter this year in a downtown center where I'd been on the list for infant care since my first pregnancy 5 years earlier with no movement at all.

Also try School for Friends. A fantastic school, and the location is convenient to where you are.

I hear great things about the YMCA Anthony Bowen!

Also recommend First Baptist CDC in Dupont. Don't let the "Baptist" be a deterrent. See other threads on this.

Thanks for the recommendations and good to know some spaces should open up! What are some of the downtown centers you know of/recommend? I've heard of Huckleberry Cheesecake....

I know for sure that the Nobel Learning Center at the DOL building has openings for PK3/4. You do not have to be Fed. We've had a great experience there and would totally recommend.

Lots of slots open in downtown centers. Try Commerce Kids. We are there and love it.

First Baptist at 17th & O was great when we were there, very warm and play based, family atmosphere, although I have not been to visit since the parking lot was turned into a huge office building. They would typically get some openings when some kids left for PS-3. Their 3 and 4 year old rooms and very strong. Ask to see the huge church gym in the basement. Very few daycares have that kind of space for large motor play in the winter/rainy days.

Just Us Kids almost always has spaces in its threes and fours room.

U.S. Kids at 14th and H St NW often has preschool openings as well. It's a fantastic center!

Maybe try NCRC and see if any spaces have opened up. The 3 year olds go half day. Its such a great school!
