Old rowhouse in dc, high velocity vs traditional package unit on roof

Anonymous
Any recommendations which system might work best? Each contractor who comes in tells us something different about what would work best in our Victorian rowhouse. Any contractor recs that are good to work with?

I would only do high velocity in a pinch.

Why? Just cost? Or is there some performance difference?

Can you do mini splits?

High velocity isn't ideal the systems are more expensive and there is just too much air blowing. I would rather have a split or regular ducts because of maintenance and lower air speed.

We have high velocity. It is fine, but if i could do it over i would do minisplits. You dont have any control over the temperature of each room with high velocity.

I have done high velocity in three DC row houses and have been extremely happy. We used Rich Abernathy at Air Cool & Heating.

Am I the only one who finds the big wall unit for the min-split to be a complete deal breaker? And the need to use a remote control? i see very little advantage over window units.

We went ahead and did traditional AC in our row house. I was worried about where the ducts would go but these guys were geniuses at concealing them. I looooooove our AC. It has completely changed our lives during the summer months (aka May thru Oct).

We have high velocity from Sila and are very happy. Well worth not having to do duct work.

Who did the job? How much did it cost? How long did it take?

We have had mini split and high velocity. Definitely prefer high velocity. The large wall unit & remote control (vs. Nest thermostat) are not great.

Sorry, just saw this. Julio Chevez of (I think) Chevez Air. I can't remember exactly but it was only a few days. It was maybe 10 or 11,000? We are in a small row house.

^^Me again--this was just last year. This is our second summer with AC.
