How much do you spend on a vacation?

Anonymous
I think vacations are important. Hubby doesn't think so.

We make $250k/year so I think that we deserve one good week-long trip somewhere nice. The rest of the year we can do staycations or little long weekend getaways.

What's your HHI and how much do you typically spend on your main vacation?

Sorry - I see this asked in another thread...

20K for 3 weeks. Family of 4, visiting a far-off land with a high COL. Money spent mostly on airfare, hotel, food.

In a lower COL area, we can do less than 10K. Again, most of the money is spent on airfare.

This is to visit family abroad.

There's another thread TODAY on this but...we make around $280K and spend approx $15K total a year. One big one week trip around $7-10k (depending where we go). And then a couple flights to visit family (which add up due to plane ticket prices) but no other big costs. And then a few weekend getaways than cost $500 or so.

Just did 8 days at WDW for $6k. Will probably do 4-5 days in VA Beach this summer for $1.5k or so. Probably going on a cruise with some girlfriends in Feb for $2.5k (taking the kids but DH hates boats).

Last year was pretty similar. .. $5k for two weeks in CA (tickets with points and staying with in laws for half), $1kish for a long weekend at parks in PA, hmm ... missing something.

HHI of $190K. We spend about $3k for a week away every other year. But, in DCUM terms, we're poors.

We make around 190k, no kids, no debt. We love travel so we plan one big 1-2 week foreign trip a year, and a handful of long weekend trips. Probably spend about $10-15k a year on vacations, travel, etc.

22:57 here ... family of four with HHI $225k. We could spend less on vacations and save more but what's the point of going through life not trying new things or new experiences if you're able? Right now it's things like WDW but we also do the National Parks and when the kids are a little older it will be overseas travel. I've traveled through the Middle East, Europe, and Asia and that's something I want to give my kids too.

$220k. It depends. My husband was born in a different country and when we go back there to visit (every few years), we spend about $5k. Most years we do a week somewhere else for about $1,500-$2,000. There are just three of us.

We do lots of weekend trips and day trips though.

My son is in private school, K-8, and when he goes to public, I'll start spending more $$ on vacations.

Usually about $10-12k+ on skiing for a couple of trips (last year it was 3 trips, one of which was local). Also did a week in Europe for about $5000 (for only 2 people though). Several long weekends. We have a summer house so don't usually do a separate summer vacation. Kids are older and also did several trips - 2 to Europe, one to Mexico, one to Canada. Those were pretty inexpensive - maybe $3000 total.

Try to keep it at $1000 per week per person although that isn't always realistic.

$20K---$1.2M HHI

HHI of 120K, and I guess it's around $3000 a year, usually. More like 7000-8000 this year, since we're going 3 weeks to Europe in the summer, and also will have a trip to Wisconsin and a trip to the southwest US. (some of this isn't really "vacation", more visiting family. We haven't done a non-family-visiting vacation in several years, but have one planned.)

$120k HHI and we spent $5k on week long trip to England. are also going to Quebec for a week and to the beach for a week (no accommodation cost at either). We do one big trip a year for about $5k and then lots of small weekend trips (PA, the beach, NYC). We are lucky to have family at the beach and then we choose moderate hotels when we travel (Marriotts not Ritz).
