Booked bus tix from DC to NYC w/ plans to travel w/ 5 yo. Just learned that few of the buses are capable of installing safety seats and, furthermore, they rarely have seat belts. Has anyone taken a bus to/from NYC in past w/ young kids? Thoughts re: safety? Thanks!!
At 5? I wouldn't worry. Bring books and an iPad. Should be fine.
Of course we'd always like to have our kids in seats but buses are designed differently. I wouldn't worry.
I've taken Vamoose with my son several times at ages 4-5 and never used a car seat. Buses have different safety profiles.

I don't think it's the safest thing in the world (since there is always a risk of crash and you'll be travelling at high speeds on the highway), but I would do it.
Kids also aren't buckled in on the metro, the metro goes high speeds on our route, and we take that all the time. Same for trains. If you are only going for a daytrip, definitely don't try to take a car seat because you would have to lug it around while sightseeing. |
