You cannot judge coaches by what they do in game. If you did, you'd think UCLA should've fired that Wooden guy long ago.

If a coach is trying to yell out instructions all the time during a game, then that coach failed to do his or her job in training. Or they're just putting on a show for easily duped parents.

These kids need some amount of instruction. They just dont have the IQ to let them go out and figure it out.

DB is a nice guy and may turn out to be a decent coach. Time will tell, but this persona that he’s built up as an amazing coach is largely built on his ability to recruit athletes. Interested to see what he can do with older age groups next year with less relative athleticsm.

I don't think anyone ever said that DB is "nice". I suppose he is but it is definitely not the first word that comes to mind. You are successful at recruiting when you are a good coach. They go hand in hand.

No, you're successful at recruiting when people *think* you are a good coach.

Or when they at least think you're not a total douchebag.

First hand experience, DB is a good coach. My DD learned a TON from him. His leaving was a huge loss for McLean.

Under CW’s tutelage it seems DB did a good job with 9 year old athletic kids. That’s a far stretch from ECNL on his own next year. Guess we will see a year from now especially with the less already talented 2011’s.

Would this be considered casting judgment on young players?

DB with less athletic players next year? Are you serious or do you live under a rock? He’s going to NVA where they have 10x the athletes as Union lol…you’re an idiot! Especially at the 2011 age group. NVA beat Union handedly twice this year. And DB has once again recruited some serious athletes and soccer players to NVA already. Hell, I heard their already a few practices into the new season over there. Meanwhile Union or FVU, whatever it’s called now, is still trying to figure out who’s coaching and which parents are going to get in the boxing ring first on the sidelines.

Before Unions late season slide, was there any question that NVA was clearly bringing up the rear for the VA 2011’s? And now they’ve added some reserves from other teams and they all of a sudden are world class?

I think the preceding post may have been in jest.

Oh right, John Wooden always comes to mind when thinking about DB's coaching style.

"easily duped" parents is more like it.

I agree here.

DB starts commenting about himself on this thread and all the sudden everybody thinks he will have instant success at the ECNL level.

If he’s lucky, his 2012s will carry him to a decent season because he’s inheriting the best team around. And even there, he failed to secure any outside talent to strengthen the team. Good luck.

In a normal world, I would agree with you but this is a Loudoun parent of a young kid.

I truly admire everyone’s psychic abilities in terms of figuring out who’s posting what, but they come with a tinge of dyslexia. My initials are BD. I don’t know DB. I just know it’s really. really, really, really, really stupid to judge a coach based on what you see on game day unless he’s joystick coaching or keeping up a constant stream of negativity, which are both red flags. Being quiet is not.

It’s amazing how many clueless, clown parents there are out here in NOVA.

And they all think they know more than the coaches or refs.

Because your 10 yr old is “really special” a “really special team”?

It's trajectory. NVA developed over the season and got better while Union stagnated or got worse under CW. Having seen these teams i agree with the PP who said NVA athletes are better and if I had to guess today I would say NVA does better than FVU next year.

Would this same trajectory theory apply to Brave as well? The players from Brave, who tied and then beat NVA, are merging with Union. With this information, NVA somehow does better next year? The math doesn’t seem to math here.

But aren't there fewer players from Brave on FVU than Union? That's the shame here, FVU took fewer players from the stronger team.
