I've just joined WW online. I've done the points system in the past (most recently after I had DD 2 years ago) and have always had success with it (slow but steady success). Then I switched to the South Beach Diet because I thought it would be easier to not have to count points, but I honestly can't stand it anymore. I've been one and off the strict Phase 1 part of the diet, then totally blowing it, losing and gaining the same 5 lbs for a few months now. I need a more flexible plan that allows more freedom, but is still based on sound nutrition.
That being said, I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there currently doing Weight Watchers, and can you tell me if anything has changed significantly in the past year or so? I know they used to have a choice between a points program and the Core program (similar to a low carb program like South Beach, I think) but it now appears they only have one program with points again. I don't have time to go to meetings which is why I joined online. Just looking for some support and advice. Thanks!!! BTW, I'm looking to lose about 15 lbs. |

Yes, I'm doing it online. It works when you follow it properly and measure and count! For me one of the most important components is getting enough protein with each meal so I'm not starving.... But I like the flexibility of it. I lost my weight after pregnancy #1, and am now doing pregnancy #2 (10 down, 10 to go).
No substantive changes to the program. I think in December they condensed the Flex and Core pathways back into one thing called Momentum, but it's basically the same story. If you follow points it's exactly the same. Depending on your weight, activity level, age, and whether you are nursing, you get a points allotment per day, and 35 extra points that can be used each week. Activity points also can be eaten when you have used up all the allotted daily and weekly points. If you have done WW fairly recently, you could follow the same program. Good luck! |
| THanks! I've only been back on it for one day and I already feel better and more in control of my eating. THere's something about having to track what you eat that really makes a difference. It really makes you realize how easy it is to overeat -- even with healthy foods! I'm guessing that's why the merged the Core program (no counting) back with the points program. |
| I did WW on line last summer and lost over 20lbs and have kept it off for 6 months. I have tried SB etc but the only thing that worked was WW. The fact that I have kept all of it off for over 6 months I think says a lot about the program |
| Just want to say Good for you! I'm trying to convince my husband to do WW online. I think it's an excellent program. You'll look great this summer! |
| Ok. You all are motivating me... and I have seriously been lacking in motivation. |
OP here -- congrats on keeping 20 lbs off for 6 months. That's huge! It's hard enough to lose 20 lbs, but keeping it off is even harder. You've totally inspired me on my second day of WW.

| Not much has changed. As a fellow WWer just be completely honest with every bite and every point. You will definitely lose this way! |
Wow, thanks! That means a lot to me. I will tell you that every day I did want to quit...I mean it is a total pain to log in all your food every day. But I was honest and I logged it in...and every single week I lost a pound until I was down 20 lbs. I now weight what I did close to 10 years ago. But it is totally do able and livable you just have to keep working at it. I even sold all of my old clothes at a consignment shop! I am a 4-6 now and I am not going back! YOu can do this! |
| I lost 19 pounds so far, and have another 15 or so to go. It's great! I even lost weight during a girl's weekend to New York. Down from tight 14 to loose 10. S |
| For those of you that have or are doing WW - what kind of foods do you eat? I was on it for a while, but found it difficult to track my food because I was eating my own cooking, which was not based on WW recipes. I found using the recipe builder to calculate the points for these to be too tedious, and I eventually quit. If you've had success on the plan, did you just suck it up and enter any non-WW recipes into the points system, or did you eat things that came from the WW plan? |
|
Yes, I suck it up and figure out the points on all my recipes. It's not that difficult. Once you make something one time, you can store it in your "favorites" forever. Also, some cookbooks have nutritional information per serving, so you can enter that right in. Just make sure you eat the correct portion size.
Eat your own food. It's the only way you can really incorporate it into your life for long-term. Good luck, and kudos for actually cooking! |
I also ate my own food and love to cook. You just have to log it in. It is a total pain in the neck...but I found not fitting into my clothes because I was 20 lbs too heavy to be more annoying!

| I use a lot of cooking light recipes. They break all the nutrition down, so it is easy to calculate points. |
