Are there hotels in Falls Church City?

Anonymous
We want to do a test commute (on metro - leaving from EFC) from Falls Church City to see how painful it will be to get into the city. We would like to stay somewhere that is close to Broadmont as that is the neighborhood we are targeting for the purchase of our next home. I'm having trouble figuring out if there are hotels near there. Anyone know?

You could always wake up 1/2 hour early and drive to where you think your starting point would be and then commute from there.

Please keep in mind that traffic is much lighter in the summer.

I think there is an Inns of Virginia on Broad Street.

We will keep that in mind - thanks. We are trying to buy close enough to walk to metro, so I'm basically wondering what the metro commute will be like (orange line from EFC, switching to red to get to Union Station). I can see how long it will take from the metro website, but actually doing it usually feels different.

You could also post in Real Estate to get feedback from people who live there about what their commute is like.

There is a new Hilton Garden Inn on Route 7, but that is farther from EFC than Broadmont.

As for the commute, I go from WFC to Union Station, and from parking my car at the metro lot to my office desk, it's around an hour. Starting at EFC would be a bit shorter than that on metro, since you also get Silver Line trains.

there's a Townplace suites (part of Marriott chain, go to marriott.com) on Hillwood Ave, near the Dunkin Donuts on Annandale Rd and Lee Highway. It's sort of between EFC and WFC metro. (about 1 mile walk to each)

Easier to just have someone tell you EFC to whereever in DC.

DH does that daily from EFC to McPherson Sq at 8am and 5pm and it was 30 minutes in metro plus 15 minutes of walking door to door. Unless ORange line of Metro breaks down (once in a while) and then all bets are off.

There is a not very nice Econo Lodge located where Washington Boulevard and Lee Highway intersect. I think the address is on Lee Highway. It would not be scenic, but you could walk to EFC in about 5-10 minutes.

My commute is virtually what you describe- East Falls Church to Judiciary Square (1 stop before Union Station). The metro portion takes 25-30 minutes with no unusual delays or breakdowns.

Vienna to the White House for DH takes about 45min door to door (he gets off at Farragut West). I would do as the other's have said, drive to the metro, get there when you think you would walk there and then see how long it takes to get there. Or take an Uber if you don't want to have to drive back home.

Econo Lodge or Towne Place Suites

I do this from WFC (to Union Station). From my house (a few minutes drive to parking) to my office by Union Station, it takes 1hr. If there is a metro disaster (more frequent than one would think), it can be significantly longer. The good thing about EFC now is that the Silver line goes through there as well and often, those trains are emptier than the Orange Line.

I'd definitely post this in Real Estate.

That being said, I transfer from red to orange at Metro Center and it pretty much sucks.
