low-key, warm, accepting sleep away camp recommendations

| We've probably missed the boat on this summer, but thinking ahead to next summer. Looking a low-key overnight camp for my dd, although co-ed is probably better than all girls. She is slow to warm to new people, so would need a camp with attentive staff that would work to pull her out of her shell and where the other campers don't already know each other. |

| Not religious. Traditional sleep-away activities -- arts and crafts, canoeing, swimming, etc. For rising 4th grader. East coast. |

| I really like camp hidden meadows, which is about four hours from DC. It's small, warm, friendly - not fancy. My kids come home dirty but super happy and having done all sorts of great new stuff, like canoeing and digging up potatoes and riding a zip line. |

| Look at Shiloh Quaker Camp or the sister camps Catoctin and Opequon. Shiloh was great for both my kids and low key Yet engaged. Many kids like mine return every year. Very outdoorsy. http://bymcamps.org/ Many campers are not Quaker. Most counselors are former campers. |

| +1 for Catoctin or any of the BYM camps. My two loved it and will go back again this summer. If you hurry you can still get a spot. |
