Summer activities in NW DC for 3 and 5 year old

Anonymous
We are moving to NW DC (Tenleytown area) this summer. The kids will be home with me all summer, and are looking for some things that we can do during the week--not a camp, but some classes. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find much on line. Anyone have any suggestions for summer activities/classes in NW DC for a 3 and 5 year old? We're particularly interested in gymnastics, art, soccer, skating, swimming and dance (any form), but will really consider anything that keeps the kids busy!

Unfortunately many places that do weekly lessons stop in the summer to host camps. Joy of Motion in tenleytown has dance classes for 5 year olds, but not sure abou 3 year olds. The Cleveland park club also has dance lessons but not sure if during the summer since there is a camp there. We have done ice skating lessons at the cabin John rec center in Montgomery country and you can start at 3 yrs. nations capital swim club at AU is 5 minutes from tenleytown and has classes in June and July for kids as early as 3 but lessons are in the late afternoon only. Silver stars gymnastics in silver spring is only 15 minutes from many parts of NWDC and they have limited weekly classes for younger kids (they run camps all summer).

Try DC parks and rec, it took me a year in DC before I found out about them and they have some great swim lessons and other classes for the kids. Their website is the worst though

Ballet Petite in Bethesda, super close to the DC border has some summer classes. They don't run as many classes over the summer as they do during the school year, though.

DCJCC has swimming lessons on Wednesdays. Most places that offer classes during the school year offer full blown camps during the summer, so there may be fewer individual classes available, as the usual class space is being used all week.

A lot of the preschools run camps - often half day. Call chevy chase presbeteryian among others. Also, lots of the private schools also do 1/2 day camp. Sidwell, Beauvoir etc.

PP- sorry, didn't see that you dont' want to do camps.

You've got Wilson swimming pool if you want. Some of the local tennis courts have clinics for little ones.
