What kind of vacuum do I need?

Anonymous
Our house has all hard wood and some little rugs here and there. I have little kids who are still in the crumb dropping phase and I feel lik I need a vacuum. Right now I sweep everything but that gets tiresome doing every night.

It should be able to pick up crumbs from the bevels (sp?) of the hardwood and also be able to give a quick clean to the rugs. Can you suggest something that works for both of these, lightweight and costs less than 100 bucks?

Thank you.

With a lot of hardwood flooring I'd lean towards a canister vacuum. Since you have some rugs, you will need some time of powered nozzle with a brushroll. Doing a quick google search found an entry-level Sears Kenmore canister (lime color) on sale for $129 this weekend. The powerhead will clean the rugs really well and you can swap it out and use the floor brush for all of your hardwood. If you're willing to pay $50 more you can get the orange one that has a quick-release on the powerhead which will make swapping out tools MUCH quicker!

I love, love, love the Bissell CleanView that I bought from Macy's SIX years ago for $79. I replace the filters every 2-3 years and it runs like new. We have the same type of house - mostly hardwood floors and area rugs.
