| When do you have to tell the school? |
| If you entering K or above, and you live IB, you can register at any point. For OOB or PK4, my school set a registration deadline at some point in June. We're leaving, so I'm not sure exactly when it is. |
|
PP is right. If you are IB there is no deadline.
Obviously it helps the administration plan for the fall (decide class assignments and so forth) if you don't wait til the last second to inform them. OP - are you undecided or just don't want to be public about your plans? |
| op here. I don't want to get in to the whole situation as it is too detailed for the public forum but I want to know how likely it is that a spot will open up that the school does not already know about. |
| We are planning to come back but we also have good numbers at two other schools we would leave for. We filled out re enrollment paperwork because absent a call, we will be back. I am sure that others are in similar positions at various schools. |
| So re enrollment paperwork was due already? Is that true at every school or does the school set the deadline? |
| Our elementary school sent out an annual survey asking parents if they were planning on returning for the next school year. They also asked for next year's paperwork to be in by the end of April or May (can't remember). Using these tools they can guesstimate but can't know for sure who is or isn't coming back because anyone can change his/her mind at any time and they must take all comers who live IB. |
Depends on the school, but it's fairly likely. DC parents tend to be... twitchy. Just look at your own situation. |
| Our DCPS ES asks that returning families submit paperwork by May 1. |
|
Our JLKMM really encourages everyone to register one way or another by the end of April, and then pushes the standouts to register by the end of May.
That said, we don't have a lot of OOB spots, so not sure it would help anyone except the school budget. |
| The school budget is set. |
|
We submitted our paperwork the Friday before school started at the beginning of this year. Yes, we were asked by teachers last year and I told them we weren't sure. The school planned for my kids to be there, we got our class assignments before we submitted paperwork.
In fact, I think that unless you tell them you are not coming back they assume you are. |
| Janney asked families to re enroll by June 1 (for planning purposes I assume.) |
I'm going to take a wild guess as to your situation - you have a good waitlist number at a school for PK3 where most spots went to siblings. You're hoping that at least one of those sibling families is leaving the school. Yes? |
| I think the official deadline is June 1st. Our school is brainstorming incentives to get parents to commit before then so that folks like OP can hear sooner rather than later. |
